With this debut, equity and diversity consultant Wiggins and Anderson (founder, executive director, Bilingual Brown Babies) write an accessible introduction into how internalized misogyny seeps into relationships among women at work with straightforward prose and specific examples drawn from more than 75 interviews. The authors show how important it is to recognize our own deeply entrenched biases or assumptions by showing that all social interactions are based on scripts we learn rooted in our own social and cultural backgrounds, and that socialized behaviors unintentionally trigger microaggressions. Each chapter concludes with action steps, many of which could be used as icebreakers or activities in workplace trainings about sexism, diversity, inclusion, and privilege. This book, which doubles as an easy-to-digest overview of feminism, nicely complements Jennifer L. Eberhardt's Biased and Dolly Chugh's The Person You Mean To Be. VERDICT This guide will prove useful for human resource managers, individuals involved in hiring processes or staff training and development, and those who address gendered inequities in the workplace, as well as readers interested in how gendered oppression and feminist responses to it has shaped organizational cultures.--Emily Bowles, Univ. of Wisconsin, Madison
