Air travel today is taken for granted as simply another means of getting from place to place. Most passengers give no thought about the plane they board, except for the occasional worry about its flightworthiness. However, building a commercial airplane is a complex procedure. For the 787, this involves more than 12 suppliers from six countries--Japan, Korea, Australia, the UK, the United States, and Italy. Turner, a Boeing photographer whose work has graced the covers of many aviation magazines, takes the reader on a visual tour of the creation of the company's 787 Dreamliner. Over 250 magnificent color photos document every step of the assembly process, while narrative accounts from Boeing executives in conjunction with explanatory captions enhance the experience. VERDICT This will be of great interest to airplane enthusiasts. Those in the engineering and technical fields also will be fascinated by a look into the 787's manufacture.--William Baer, Georgia Inst. of Technology Lib., Atlanta
