Sales brings her 20 years of experience as a John Hopkins social worker to the topic of managing terminal illness in families. Her book has 21 short, pragmatic chapters dealing with issues like finding the right words, caring for a critically ill spouse or child, hospice, what death looks like, and whether or not children should go to funerals. The most valuable sections talk about what is age appropriate for children and how to make decisions about their inclusion in the family's experiences with terminal illness. While there was no mention of it in the book, Sales has supplemented some content of the book with YouTube videos, which readers will appreciate. VERDICT Unsophisticated but easy to read; though the text is unpolished, its lack of style doesn't detract from its value as a much-needed handbook on a difficult subject. Readers who know or who are related to someone with a terminal illness will find this of great use.--Fran Mentch, Cleveland State Univ.
