Following 2011’s Dead on the Delta, Jay returns to a faerie-infested America, where Fairy Containment and Control Agent Annabelle is still struggling with the ramifications of her new paranormal abilities. She has little time for contemplation; no sooner is she confronted with a surprising revelation about the true nature of the faerie plague than she finds herself caught between factions quarreling over a secret and deadly lab. Forced to chose between her friends and lovers, Annabelle will have to work hard to stay alive. While Jay is clearly very familiar with the conventions of paranormal romance, she seems incapable of moving beyond those conventions and meeting urban fantasy readers’ expectations. Every element in this book has its analogue in other series; an experienced reader of the genre will see every twist and turn coming long in advance.
