Across America, there are African Americans who are successful at defying the color barrier and have become wealthy as investment bankers, lawyers, entrepreneurs, and corporate executives. Paul Taylor is a shrewd lawyer and businessman. After receiving news from a college buddy, he has an epiphany. At the funeral of a member of "the Pride," he invites three members to lunch and presents the pros and cons of merging their highly successful financial businesses into one black-owned financial powerhouse. Deirdre Douglas is Paul's ex-wife and owner of DBD Financial Advisors. Jerome Hardaway, the boy wonder of Wall Street, built the Hardaway Group THG into the second-leading black-owned investment firm in the U.S. within five years, and Gordon Stallworth Perkins, owner and chief executive of G. S. Perkins and Partners LLP, made it the largest black-owned investment banking firm in the U.S. The dealings and maneuvering of each player are told with intrigue and suspense. A great story!(Reprinted with permission of Booklist, copyright 2006, American Library Association.)
