K-Gr 3-This series is perfect for young readers looking to learn about big dog breeds. Each title begins by describing the dog's physical traits and temperament and offering a little bit of breeding background. The last chapter is devoted to at-home care. Large, beautiful photos with every spread provide great images of the breed in repose or action. A closing "How Big Are They?" chart compares the topic dog's height and weight to that of a typical baby elephant, a slightly odd but fun comparison. Two "Critical Thinking" questions linked to the Common Core are specific to each volume and call on simple recall and higher level skills. VERDICT These will be a hit in collections where there's a demand for dog books.
