I See Squares

PreS-K-Simple sentences, one to a page, accompany photographs of items found in everyday living: picture frames, blocks (Squares), the American flag, the star atop a Christmas tree (Stars). The dull-colored stock photos are unappealing. The subdued rhyming text is at times rather dry (e.g., "This is fun to draw"; "This my sister saw" (Stars) with little connection to the corresponding picture. Better choices include Do You See Shapes? (Children's Press, 2010) and Karen Nagel's Shapes That Roll (Blue Apple, 2009).-Krista Welz, North Bergen Public Library, NJ
