Animal Trainer

Gr 6-10-Trueit includes comments from professionals engaged in a wide range of careers with animals and descriptions of their daily work to bring to life numerous options for animal trainers and wildlife conservationists. After a general introduction to animal training, she includes focus chapters for those working with dogs, horses, and marine mammals. The conservation volume features profiles of several scientists engaged in fieldwork and research activities. Both include on-the-job photos. Trueit provides advice about choosing high school classes, pursuing volunteer and internship opportunities, and selecting college and university programs. She provides information about salary ranges and employment outlook, noting that competition may be intense in many of the featured careers. While offering encouragement to animal lovers, Trueit does not minimize hard work and long hours involved, sometimes in adverse conditions.
