Grades 3-6 The entries in the Discoveries Around the World series (7 titles) relate influential innovations from every continent. Each book begins with a brief geographic overview that includes a world map with the continent in bold. The remaining text describes the continent's environment, science, technology, and culture and profiles scientists and engineers (many of whom are women and people of color) who have revolutionized these areas. In the process, the volumes connect ancient origins to modern STEM, and a variety of color photos documents these key features. While incorporating technologies like early refrigeration and the country's film industry, Australia also discusses the importance of its Indigenous peoples and culture. A concluding, double-page spread uses thumbnails of the innovations to identify their location on the continent. This series offers a fresh, accessible blend of social studies and STEM.
