Gr 7 Up-These short books give young directors solid information about creating original films. Each title has the same organization-an introduction to the genre, followed by sections on planning, shooting, editing, and premiering-and some of the information is repeated in each of the books. Horror, Sci-Fi, and Action have fun ideas for simple special effects that could be realistically accomplished by industrious teens. Comedy discusses how to decide what works and does not work in a humorous film. Throughout the volumes, Quijano refers to famous movies and points out techniques used in them to accomplish specific ends. The series assumes that readers have access to a digital movie camera, film editing software, and a computer capable of handling large files. The books are illustrated with photographs and reproductions set on busy, brightly colored backgrounds.
