Gr 9 Up-This tells the story of two supposedly very different teenagers: Ana, an Iranian refugee, who is only allowed out to attend school; and Jono, a Vietnamese Australian boy who is struggling with his mother leaving him and his dad. One day Jono's father, Kenny, introduces Ana and Jono, but starts questioning who Ana really is. As Jono and Ana become close, can they show Kenny that they really aren't so different, after all? Told from the perspectives of all three characters, this book really gets to the heart of the subject of immigration and refugees. Atkins handles the tough situations with lots of insight and strongly developed characters. This is also a fantastic coming-of-age novel. VERDICT An informative, timely book. Give to readers interested in contemporary issues.-Tegan Anclade, Lake Villa District Library, IL
