Gr 2-5-Kondonassis stresses the global impact of local choices related to the environment by comparing the planet and its vigilant care to one's house. She identifies actions that contribute to climate changes and habitat destruction. For example, she reminds readers that the electricity they use to watch television or run computers comes from power plants that use natural resources. Similarly, items that are discarded rather than recycled don't simply disappear. The text's encouraging tone generates a can-do attitude about making changes. The book includes suggestions for action steps that readers can take to solve problems and contribute to solutions. Unfortunately, the garishly colored cartoon illustrations don't do much to enhance the presentation, particularly on pages where angular people appear. Libraries might consider adding this title where supplemental materials are needed for Earth Day observances or similar environmental initiatives, but it's not a must purchase.-Kathy Piehl, Minnesota State University, Mankato, MN
