Grades 3-6 It is a truth universally acknowledged that a child in possession of a large toy must be in want of something to do with the cardboard box it came in. Fortunately, this book contains 12 projects that can turn an ordinary cardboard box into a rocket, a hot air balloon, and a dollhouse, among other things. After an introduction provides detailed tips for the various materials and tools required, each project comes with a supply list (helpfully, including the requisite box-dimensions) and clear, step-by-step instructions, accompanied by full-color photographs to demonstrate what each cut and fold should look like. Though the projects are creative and fun, they are difficult enough that an adult would need to go above and beyond mere supervision and probably see each creation out, since the instructions include precision cutting and making identical marks. Still, for a rainy day activity or for something to do with a surfeit of cardboard boxes, this is a great resource that will spark hours of entertainment and imaginative play.(Reprinted with permission of Booklist, copyright 2016, American Library Association.)
