Grades 8-11 The age-old battle between good and evil has gone cyber. This installment in the High-Tech Jobs series refers to efforts of computer experts to thwart the theft and misuse of information online before it happens. White hat hackers work to keep information private for the banking industry, government agencies, and health-care organizations. Other chapters cover common tools for the profession, along with work conditions, educational requirements, and certification procedures. Plenty of real-world scenarios are presented to illustrate types of problems white hats are hired to prevent, and notable white hats with major accomplishments in the field are highlighted, but Smith doesn't shy away from some of the potential downsides of the job, either. A lengthy list of web resources is included in the bibliography for readers interested in this up-and-coming career path.(Reprinted with permission of Booklist, copyright 2015, American Library Association.)
