Gr 1-3 -These brief biographies familiarize readers with Americans who made significant contributions to our society. Beginning with a chapter about why each individual is historically important, the books provide basic introductions but do not go into any detail, resulting in some oversimplification. The texts flow well and, despite the short sentences, they are coherent and readable. The titles are generously illustrated with captioned full-color and black-and-white photos of the featured people and their time periods. The layouts have a large, easy-to-read font with lots of white space. Back matter includes important dates in each person's life and additional facts not covered in the narrative.
