Preschool-G The Our Animal World series, part of the publisher's Amicus Readers brand, gives early readers a few simple introductory ideas about different elements of animal life, not enough for any sort of deep insight but plenty to spark wonder about the vastness of the life on earth. The small trim size doesn't diminish the impact of full-bleed and inset photos, with certain details called out with an arrow that attaches to a word (for example, claw) defined later in a picture glossary. How Animals Hide gets the usual impressive mileage out of photos of stick bugs and katydids, as well as this less-common zebra fact: The pattern of their stripes tricks lions. They cannot pick one zebra from the group. Besides the picture glossary, the back matter includes a memory game, ideas for teachers and parents, an index, and a list of websites.(Reprinted with permission of Booklist, copyright 2011, American Library Association.)
