Gr 2-4 -Throughout these informative titles, the author poses questions, asks students to make predictions, and suggests simple experiments and observations that will enhance their understanding of basic science concepts. In "Air", readers are encouraged to step outside on a windy day and "notice all the things wind can move." Noting the differences between human and dog or cat breathing rates and making a miniature sailboat for the bathtub are just two of the experiments included. In the second title, students are asked to search for water in their homes. They can experiment with how its level changes when adding plates to water in the sink. Why some objects sink and others float is also explored. Collecting water from a potato, making a maze to see how water flows, and observing condensation are some of the tasks to engage youngsters. In "Weather", readers are encouraged to watch the sky, note the temperature, and keep track of weather changes. Making a cloud form, comparing snowflakes, and creating a wind stick are suggested hands-on activities. In all three books, the texts are printed on what resembles a piece of lined paper against a corkboard. Each page includes at least one captioned photo (some posed); back-end experiment sections are illustrated with cartoon art. The "Let's Explore" series (Gareth Stevens) also introduces basic concepts but does not include experiments. Stewart's books offer a number of simple experiments for budding scientists and will be especially welcome in school libraries where the demand is high." -Sandra Welzenbach, Villarreal Elementary School, San Antonio, TX"
