GarageBand, Apple's new entry-level music production software, allows Mac users to record, mix, compose, and edit their own music. Visual QuickStart uses clear screen shots and step-by-step directions to introduce beginners to the software's features, from working with the basic interface and time line to incorporating GarageBand songs in other iLife programs. Tips add information, while appendixes cover improving performance and the add-on Jam Pack. For all libraries. By the administrator of the Mac Audio Guy web site, MacAddict offers beginning to intermediate users more information on the software's uses from a musician's point of view and provides optimization tips for those more comfortable with tinkering with the OS. Step-by-step directions, screen shots, tips, and notes make this a useful learning tool; extensive appendixes cover add-ons, configuring a music studio, keyboard shortcuts, instruments, MIDI information, online resources, and effects. Appropriate for all libraries. Apple Training Series serves as Apple's "official training course" for new users. Its CD contains project files for each step-by-step lesson, notes help address common issues, and appendixes cover the Jam Pack and summarize more professional tools. Full-color screen shots are a nice touch, as are chapter summaries. Beginners will welcome its straightforward approach; recommended for all libraries.
