This incredibly dry text is intended to keep companies and the managers responsible for human resources out of legal hot water. Primarily for businesses with small or no employee relations departments, lawyer Fleischer tries his best to communicate in the simplest, easiest-to-understand terms about contracts, discipline, federal requirements, all the acronyms associated with employment (FMLA, ERISA, HIPAA, COBRA, and the like), and other need-to-know topics. Softening up the text are frequent quick tips, case studies of related rulings, alerts, and definitions; it's indicative of today's world that only a few niceties--"treat employees reasonably"--are included in the introduction.
