Longtime Wall Street trader Panzner has written a highly technical and detailed account of why the stock market is the way it is. Beginning with the current situation, he examines the stock market bubble, what caused it, and why it burst. His main focus, however, lies with the market's laws, or "rules of the jungle." These laws, which outline what makes today's market different, cover such aspects as ever-increasing volatility, new similarities between stock and commodity trading, the effects of emotions and attitudes on trading, increased information and new means of communication, the growing impact of derivatives, less predictable cycles, more short-term market imbalances, effects of wishful thinking and fantasy on markets, less reliable market indicators, and, finally, the increasing influences of globalization. He ends by looking to the future and what new "laws" lie ahead. To make all this more digestible, each chapter includes graphics, action points, and examples. While informative, this book would still be heavy going for those not already stock market mavens. Purchase where there is interest.--Susan Hurst, Miami Univ. Libs. of Ohio, Oxford
