Grades 1-3 Young sports fans will find an introduction to almost every game in this fun and colorful first sports encyclopedia. Sections are organized by sports, games, sports stories, athletes, and sporting events, with the sports section further broken down by type?team, individual, winter, and water. Each sport receives a two-page spread containing introductory information, such as the number of players and equipment required to play, along with rules and interesting facts. More spreads dedicated to athletes, stories, and sporting events include information about the events as well as records set and additional information. Each colorful page includes illustrations that pair excellently with the large text. Readers will learn about incredible athletic feats and ancient games?including board games?and how to play them. An index makes information easy to seek, though eager readers may find themselves flipping from cover to cover in one sitting.
