Grades 5-8 What's more enticing than zombies and robots? Aliens and vampires, perhaps? Each gets its own treatment in the Greatest Movie Monsters series, which highlights not only the major films and TV shows that popularized these creatures but also their origins in folklore and literature. The snarling cover of Aliens leaves no surprise that Ridley Scott's classic Alien is featured, but so are the menacing Martians of H. G. Wells' War of the Worlds and the friendlier visitors of Steven Spielberg's E.T. the Extraterrestrial. Photos of movie stills and posters are sometimes low resolution but effectively illustrate the movie monsters. Concluding filmographies vary in length, but remain a good jumping-off point for each genre.
