Voice-over specialist David Kaye, a veteran of scores of graphic novel and animation narratives, brings those considerable big-voiced skills to this production. The dark story features an accident-prone boy who must spend his summer waiting for his broken leg to heal while dreaming of adventures with magical cats. His parents and the school bully don't understand, but the veterinarian's daughter and the old woman across the street do. To provide an all-encompassing big audio sound, writer-producer Brooke Burgess goes all out with a fully orchestrated original soundtrack, plenty of right-on-cue effects, and voice echoes, all of which build the tension to a haunting conclusion. And Book 1 is just the beginning! B.P. AudioFile 2016, Portland, Maine
