Gr 8 Up-Julie's admired older brother has been charged with murder, and her life is changed by a secret she knows about the crime. In I Am Not Emmanuelle, 13-year-old Adele steals a pack of gum, an act that triggers guilt and grief over the death of her "perfect" older sister. Both stories are short, touching, and easy to read. Each one deftly illustrates the emotion loaded in a moment in time and deals with tragic events and issues that will appeal to both reluctant readers and emo teens. That said, readers will have to look past the gimmick of the flip-book concept to find the gems inside.-Shawna Sherman, Hayward Public Library, CA
