The talented Britton, who also writes captivating historicals, continues her NASCAR series (" Dangerous Curves," 2005; " In the Groove," 2006) with this story of Rebecca Newman, widow of five-time Winston Cup champion Randy Newman. Rebecca has inherited Newman Motorsports, and she needs a new driver. Against the advice of everyone around her, Rebecca makes the decision to hire an unknown NASCAR driver, Adam Drake. And she's proven right, as Adam wins race after race. Rebecca, widowed for four years, is drawn to Adam off the track, too, and his precocious 10-year-old-daughter, Lindsey, adds to the attraction. After all, Lindsey convinced Rebecca to consider her dad, and now the little girl is playing matchmaker. Like Rebecca, Adam is still healing--he was dumped by his ex-wife for another race-car driver, so a new relationship would represent a big gamble.
