A Harvard Business School guru makes the point that strategy should not be a short-term project but an ongoing and deeply embraced responsibility--part of a good leader's DNA and daily purpose. With extended case studies of strategic failures and recoveries, she says leaders must always think analytically, passionately, honestly. They should be careful not to think that their ambition or talent can overcome realities like a weak customer base, strong competition, or instability of materials and/or labor supplies. Karen White's appealing rhythms and emotional intensity create a textured, authentic-sounding flow of energy.
