Two-hundred years after humanity fled Earth, an assassin named Reemul is awakened prematurely from a hidden cryochamber. Reemul is a Paratwa, a being of one mind controlling two bodies, and they waste no time in reminding the peaceful colony why they are feared. At the same time, two Paratwa hunters emerge from their cryochambers and immediately begin hunting Reemul. One of the hunters, Gillian, won't stop until Reemul is dead, since they killed Gillian's wife...or did they? Writer Hinz returns to the Paratwa universe in this first graphic novel release by Angry Robot, based on his novel, Liege-Killer (1987), winner of the Compton Crook Award. Without his foreword and some key explanations of terms (binary, Paratwa assassin), new readers may find it confusing. The illustrations by Proctor (Black Diamond; Gun Theory) are dark and lack depth, with several of the characters resembling each other too much, making it hard to keep track of who is doing what. VERDICT Recommended for libraries where Hinz's "Paratwa Trilogy" is popular or where patrons request.--Melanie C. Duncan, Washington Memorial Lib., Macon, GA
