Single mom Carly Lewis has a lot on her plate. In addition to two seventh graders to raise, she has a Valentine's Day fundraiser to plan, nursing boards to study for, and, as a court-ordered penalty for accidentally burning down her neighbor's shed, a school safety program. The last thing she needs is a man, especially sarcastic police lieutenant Chuck Jefferson, who had seen her humiliated and crying the day of the fire and turns out to be the person in charge of the safety program as well as the brother-in-law of the judge who sentenced her. However, when Chuck needs a date for Sunday dinner at his mom's, Carly acceptsand the fun begins. An overcommitted and lovable but prickly heroine and a no-nonsense hero spar brilliantly in this sassy, tender, sometimes hilarious romance set in Jacobs's hometown of Erie, PA.
