The doggone fun continues in the second contemporary romance in Wells’s Fur Haven Dog Park series (after Cold Nose, Warm Heart). Construction firm owner Lance Donovan gets roped into dog-sitting his brother’s fiancée’s dog—and runs into his ex-wife, his ex-dog Beckham, and Oliver, the nearly three-year-old son he never knew he had, in a Miami dog park. Interior designer Carrie Burns knows she should have told her ex-husband about their child, but when she showed up at his apartment to let him know about her pregnancy soon after their split, she was given the brush-off by his then brand new girlfriend, scaring her off from future attempts. Lance is immediately captivated by his son and easily falls back in love with his ex, embarking on a campaign to win her back. A cast of stellar supporting characters—both canine and human—add considerable charm, and Wells successfully mines Oliver’s terrible twos for some belly laughs. This second chance romance is sure to enchant. Agent: Nicole Resciniti, the Seymour Agency.

In the second book in the Fur Haven series, following Cold Nose, Warm Heart (2020), Wells portrays a divorced couple, Carrie Burns and Lance Donovan, after they encounter each other in a dog park. Lance, who is renovating an old apartment house for his brother, Caleb, introduced in the first book, wants his talented ex to be their interior designer. This plan gets complicated when he learns that Carrie has kept the fact that they have a three-year-old son, Oliver, secret from him. Wells dramatizes how they decide to tell Oliver who his father is, and how they manage to work past old resentments and admit that they still love each other. The scant canine elements are found in scenes with Carrie's Jack Russell terrier, Buckham, and return appearances of building manager Riley and her poodle, LouLou. Readers may wish for more dog-related plot lines, but Wells has created a nice sweet second-chance romance with an usual twist involving a child.(Reprinted with permission of Booklist, copyright 2020, American Library Association.)
