Readers are not lacking for apocalyptic comics, but Post York, unlike many comics in the genre, is conceivable cli-fi, containing three tales of what happens to New York City as it's swallowed up by water when the polar ice caps melt. Each story begins with Crosby, a young man, trying to survive by taking his small boat to scavenge for food for his cat--and all three end in tragedy. Romberger's illustrations are black and white with an unrefined quality that excellently does the bulk of the storytelling. The minimal dialogue and lack of captions only add to the overall bleakness. Horror is clearly conveyed, even without any supernatural forces; the characters' actions are enough to haunt readers. Equally frightening is its afterword of questions, asked to researchers at Unbuilt Labs, about the feasibility of massive flooding and its possible effect on the buildings and life in New York City. Readers who enjoy environmental sf will be the ideal audience here.
