Kate Walker is in a career slump, and she's brokenhearted after a brief engagement ends. Disillusioned about love, she increasingly finds writing romantic TV scripts a chore, and the lackluster results and rejections by producers reflect this. So she returns home to Maple Valley where she will help her father write his memoirs and figure out her next career move. Staying in town with a friend is Colton Greene, a former NFL player; he, too, is recuperating from a prematurely ended career and a failed romantic relationship. When the two meet, the mutual attraction is strong, but neither can seem to move past their heartache and broken dreams to be open to love again. VERDICT Tagg (Made To Last; Here To Stay) writes heartfelt and humorous gentle romances with a wisp of faith woven throughout. Fans of her previous two books will want this one. And devotees of Rachel Hauck and Robin Lee Hatcher will embrace a promising new author.

Tagg (Here to Stay, 2014) excels at creating wholesome romances featuring strong young career women, gentle humor, and an unobtrusive but heartfelt infusion of faith. Kate Walker's early success as a writer fizzled. Colton Greene, a rising NFL star quarterback, destroyed his career with injuries sustained in a play he should never have made. Kate needs to make some money to go on a mission to Africa, and Colton needs to sign a ghostwriter for his memoirs to keep any kind of a football-celebrity career going. They meet when Colton accompanies a friend, who just happens to be Kate's brother, to the Walkers' Iowa hometown, which has been hit by a tornado. As Maple Valley undergoes repairs, Colton and Kate, who each have troubled pasts they've fought to surmount, are drawn together. Tagg depicts many different lovessibling love, love of a child, a social worker's love for her charge, love for friends, and chaste romantic lovein this entertaining, feel-good novel with broad appeal.(Reprinted with permission of Booklist, copyright 2015, American Library Association.)
