Sarah Jenkins is 19, shy, and obedient to her doting parents. She has seen a lot of girls her age fall in love, get married, and have babies in quick succession, and she is not about to follow that path. Until she meets Connor Searles. Connor is an unassuming farm boy who on weekends dresses up and sings in rock bands at the local jazz club. Just as Sarah starts to care for Connor, he gets a record deal and is away for weeks at a time. Sarah becomes increasingly frustrated as Connor insists that the photos of him in the paper with beautiful young girls mean nothing, but when one of those girls accuses Connor of attacking her, Sarah has had too much and breaks it off with him.
