Cut from the Dallas Gunslingers baseball team when a vicious attack ruined his arm, star pitcher Rowdy Blanton has returned to Stardust to get his life back together. One means to that end is a tell-all autobiography that will expose the team's slimy manager for arranging Rowdy's career-ending attack. But for that he needs a ghostwriter, and Breeanne Carlyle, hard-core baseball fan and budding writer who has also had a crush on Rowdy since she was a teenager, is the perfect choice--for reasons he has yet to understand. Breeanne is thrilled, too, but doesn't quite get it, either. Does it have something to do with a mysterious trunk she bought and a cheetah print scarf? VERDICT Amusing, passionate, and rampant with sexual tension, this magic-dusted escapade is just plain fun and a wonderful harbinger of things to come. Wilde (Christmas at Twilight) is an expert at developing endearing Texas communities and here gives fans another one to savor. She lives in Texas, perhaps not far from Stardust.

Breeanne Carlyle loves books and baseball. After writing a moderately successful book about her great aunt's career in professional women's baseball only to have her publisher go out of business, Carlyle writes a second book that goes nowhere. When Breeanne and her three sisters attend an estate sale, she gets hit in the head by a baseball, which leads to a chance meeting with her teenage crush, ex-pitcher Rowdy Blanton. She buys an old wooden trunk that is supposed to grant wishes to those who believe in true love. When Breanne finally finds a key that fits one of the locks, she wishes for her writing career to take off. At the same time, Rowdy is looking for a ghostwriter for his tell-all autobiography. Could this be Breeanne's big chance? Wilde's first book in the Stardust, Texas series is a sweet and sexy story of first love, small towns, and family.(Reprinted with permission of Booklist, copyright 2015, American Library Association.)
