In 1884 Montana, Nora and Tade, both from loving Irish families, have a home and a child. But Tade dies in a mining accident, and soon, everyone Nora loves is gone. Pregnant after an affair with gambler Bat Moriarity, Nora can't find work. But when Moriarity is killed over a card game, Nora's half-Chinese friend Jim Li retrieves the man's diamond ring.
