Ten Little Eggs

PreS-Gr 1-A mama bird ponders her nest full of 10 eggs and wonders what each one will be when it hatches in this rhyming picture book. One by one, the eggs begin to hatch, and out pop a variety of different animals, including a bluebird, an eaglet, a flamingo, a toucan, a turtle, a platypus, and, inexplicably, a goldfish in a bowl. The cheerful colored pencil cartoon illustrations effectively enhance the whimsical tone of the story. Although the cadence of this rhyming countdown from 10 eggs to one makes for a pleasant bedtime read-aloud, the silliness of the story itself will leave young readers wondering how this odd assortment of species came to be in the mama bird's nest in the first place.
