Dion Graham's powerful narration of this beautifully written story of unconditional love and redemption will move listeners. When refugee Alfred Olyontombo left war-torn Rwanda for France and then the U.S., seeking to bury his past, he never thought it would come back to haunt him. More than 16 years later, his worst nightmare finally catches up with him. Graham's voice and tone evoke pathos as he portrays Alfred, whose fate is in limbo. Graham's storytelling is suspenseful, but sloppy edits that don't maintain the original tone slightly mar the intense listing experience. Nonetheless, his evocative performance and fine vocal characterizations make listeners reflect on the 1994 Rwandan genocide. A.C. AudioFile 2019, Portland, Maine
