Goldstein (The Prince of Nantucket
) delivers up a mostly smooth-sailing novel of art, murder and politics. In one week, 20-something SoHo art gallery manager Madison Mandelbaum is getting married to the man of her dreams. Then an anonymous tipster begins leaving her disturbing messages about her fiancé, journalist and transplanted Brit Colin Darcy, who, apparently, does more than the investigative reporting for which he is quickly gaining fame. Colin, in fact, may have something bigger to hide than the call girl he was possibly seeing behind Madison's back. The hooker turns up dead and Colin is a likely suspect, though he swears he had nothing to do with it. Madison, however, has her doubts, and after catching Colin in some whopping lies and getting insider information from her assistant DA best friend, she determines to uncover the truth and save her wedding day. The backdrop of the final frenzy before a wedding makes this madcap romp zippy and fun, although Madison and her pals sometimes stretch credulity a smidge too thin.

Madison Mandelbaum has never been happier. Its one week until her dream wedding to the impossibly gorgeous, smart, and British Colin Darcy, and nothing can dampen her happinessuntil she gets an anonymous e-mail suggesting that Colin knows a woman named Rebecca. As an investigative reporter for NBC, Colin digs up lots of dirt on lots of high-ranking people, and Rebecca was part of a sex crime investigation into the attorney general of New York that he was forced to shelve. Shortly after, Rebecca committed suicide. Madison believes Colins assurances but keeps receiving calls and e-mails that suggest Rebecca and Colin were more than just part of a news story, which makes herthink that her reporter may not be reporting everything about himself. Should she investigate further and find out if Colin has a secret, or leave it be and accept the blissful happiness she has found with him? Goldsteins third novel combines a satisfying love story with a tense mystery.(Reprinted with permission of Booklist, copyright 2009, American Library Association.)
