Brad Fingerman is finally on his way back to the top. After losing his last advertising job due to an embarrassing snafu, Brad's managed to keep himself afloat (and conveniently disguised) by passing out fast-food coupons in a chicken suit. Suit ditched for the day, Brad knows he just nailed a job interview, but on the post-interview elevator ride, Brad happens to witness a Mafia hit. Kind of. A career-minded FBI agent promises Brad an entirely new life in the Witness Protection Program if he testifies, so he embellishes a bit. Counting down until the trial date, Brad packs up and heads to Tucson, where a really big bodyguard and a very different type of advertising awaits. Nelms draws on his experience in advertising to create this darkly comic story of one man's desire to reinvent himself while holding on to the things that make him him. Quite a bit lighter than his first book, The Last Time I Died (2014), and more in the droll vein of Greg Olear, this tautly paced, very witty novel will delight anyone intrigued by the chance to start over.(Reprinted with permission of Booklist, copyright 2014, American Library Association.)
