Schramm was Hitler's official war diarist and had close-quarter access to the German leader from 1943 until his suicide. His personal observations show a different Hitler than generally seen in historical accounts. While not quite presenting "the F hrer with the song in his heart," etc., this does provide insight into what he was like as a person. Surprisingly, Schramm insists that Hitler was completely sane and realized early on that he could never win the war but plowed on nonetheless.
