Focusing on Mexican-inspired drinks featuring tequila or mescal, Carducci and Paul Tanguay, veterans of the restaurant and bar business in New York and Chicago, offer several dozen recipes that should be easy for most people to make at home. The margarita is represented, of course, but the offerings branch out from there into such tipples as El Pirata (which includes pineapple puree and Negra Modelo beer) and the Batida Uca (which perks up a classic fruit and condensed milk shake with blanco tequila). The authors include helpful information on ingredients and techniques, such as advance preparation and scaling up for parties. The generous use of photographs adds further appeal. Above all, they write engagingly, sharing stories (a habanero-eating contest gone awry!) and even a few recipes for complementary foods. VERDICT A title that is sure to have readers looking for opportunities to try the recipes contained within. Highly recommended for any collection in which books on cocktails are prevalent.--Peter Hepburn, Coll. of the Canyons Lib., Santa Clarita, CA
