This book is recommended by BlueInk Review, a fee-based review service devoted exclusively to self-published books. Booklist is happy to partner with BlueInk to bring you the best self-published titles for adults and youth. Stars reflect the decisions of BlueInk reviewers and editors. Munro's fifth book in her engaging series featuring sleuthing pathologist Toni Day sees Toni on a Caribbean cruise with her husband; her mother, Fiona; and her mother's husband, Nigel, a retired Scotland Yard inspector. When Toni goes to the ship's lido deck to read in the predawn darkness, a severed head falls from above and into the swimming pool, soon followed by the rest of the victim, which splats poolside in front of her. This outrageous beginning takes readers on a fast-paced crime-solving journey, as the victim turns out to be a singer on the ship, and Toni and Nigel identify a handful of crew members as suspects. Munro has a deft feel for engaging dialogue, and there's a wealth of vivid, authentic prose, as the plot is inspired by the author's love of cruises, and Munro is herself an Idaho pathologist. The Body on the Lido Deck will keep readers guessing until the action-packed end.(Reprinted with permission of Booklist, copyright 2017, American Library Association.)
