Counting Sheep

Peter Noble gives a meditative narration of this diary of a novice shepherd in Sweden. Axel Lind�n leaves the city for what he hopes will be a simpler and greener life on a communal farm. The short entries are snapshots of his days and routines with the sheep--endless repairing of fences, lots of wet and cold weather. Noble's steady tone conveys Lind�n's ponderings and meanderings. At one point, Lind�n muses, "A fairly large part of the work is solitary and fairly boring, gray and uneventful, so shouldn't my notes about it be a bit dull as well?"
