Gr 2-5-Two glossy, oversize volumes present stories from the Old and New Testaments in simple language for elementary school readers. Language lifted directly from the Bible is interspersed with paraphrased stories describing the Creation, the temptation in the garden, the building of Noah's Ark, the story of Moses, and the trials of Job. Rather than following the order in which the biblical books were written, the New Testament uses a chronological approach. Beginning with a description of the New Testament and the Evangelists, the second volume portrays the life of Jesus, from the conception of John the Baptist to the Ascension. Both volumes follow the same format. Each of the 60 stories is given a double-page spread, accompanied by a lackluster pen-and-ink and watercolor illustration. Despite the drab artwork, this is a sound beginning Bible particularly suited to Sunday school lessons. Especially suited for church libraries and Christian bookstores serving Hispanic populations.-Ann Welton, Grant Center for the Expressive Arts, Tacoma, WA.
