Joe Pickett, game warden in Saddlestring, Wyoming, is temporarily assigned to the more upscale and politically charged Jackson Hole district when his friend and fellow game warden, Will Jensen, turns up dead by his own gun. Was it suicide--or something more sinister? David Chandler captures the honor and grit of Pickett, the irritating personality of Pickett's eldest daughter, the quirkiness of the environmental activist, and the desperation of the land developer, who all play a part in the mystery Pickett must solve.
