Did Old Testament law apply to Christians in the New Testament? Are they still relevant today? With a writing style that is straightforward and recurrently witty, Imes (Old Testament, Prairie Coll.; Illustrated Exodus in Hebrew) answers those questions and more. Not only does the author demonstrate a solid understanding of biblical history, but she also introduces and explains concepts that the non-expert can appreciate. Moreover, she offers further insight by including references to biblical commentators, including short bibliographies at the end of each chapter for later research. She traces the ancient Israelites' experiences in the wilderness, discovering a wealth of fresh interpretation in the process. Central to those experiences is Sinai, the wilderness mountain on which God gave the Ten Commandments to Moses and the Israelites, and established their identity as a holy nation. Events at Mount Sinai are so closely linked to this identity, as the author reveals, that the mission of Jesus Christ centuries later parallels them. VERDICT Highly recommended for all students of biblical history, and especially for Christians who want to understand the connection between the Old and New Testaments.--Chad Clark, Nederland, Texas
