In a time when the United States confronts major challenges, such as international terrorism, political polarization, social unrest, and global pandemic, one might well respond with anxiety or even a sense of hopelessness. Keller (Redeemer Presbyterian Church; The Reason for God) considers these many crises, as well as his own battle with pancreatic cancer, in this book about the resurrection. Some might question the contemporary relevance of the resurrection, yet Keller argues for both the historicity of the resurrection and its key role in understanding the Bible as a whole. Rather than viewing the resurrection as providing hope only for the future, Keller maintains that it does so powerfully for the present as well. He argues that based on the reality of the resurrection, believers can confidently embrace and act upon the challenges present in the contemporary world. Throughout, he passionately focuses on hope--for himself, the country, and the world--and how we can bring a sense of hope into our lives. VERDICT Citing research from scholars like N. T. Wright and Richard B. Hayes, this latest book by Keller will find an audience among experienced students of Christian theology, especially those interested in the practical application of biblical concepts.--John Jaeger, Johnson Univ., Knoxville, TN
