As a young woman in 1980, ecologist Tweit was told that she had two to five years to live. Conventional medicine offered no clear treatment for her autoimmune disease, so she made changes both dramatic and subtle in the hopes of coaxing her disease into remission. It worked, and then again after her symptoms recurred. Readers who have taken unconventional approaches to their own illnesses and fans of the natural world and how it corresponds to our own biology will find a kindred spirit in this provocative story.E.B.
