The knowledge that her late father, Lord Weldon, had been a blackmailer was shocking enough, but when Georgiana Newbury actually follows in his footsteps, if only briefly, and tries to "convince" one of her father's victims, the elderly Earl of Winterdale, to present her to society in an effort to find a suitable husband, even she is surprised. However, the earldom has changed hands, and when the present earl, young, arrogant, and not at all what Georgiana had expected, suddenly agrees to her plan, she begins to question her decision. In this fast-paced, highly readable Regency historical, a bold, bright heroine who takes her family responsibilities seriously faces off with a handsome, calculating hero with a purpose of his own; the novel deftly depicts the flash and glitter of the season and will please Wolf's many fans. Wolf has written a number of similarly lively, well-written historical Regencies (e.g., The Deception, LJ 11/15/96) and lives in Connecticut.
