The Crossing

Manny Bustos is an orphan scrounging for food and money in the streets of Juarez, Mexico. Hammer's flat speech reflects Manny's thick-skinned response to life in the streets. As if there were nothing out of the ordinary, the narrator recounts the horrors of Manny's everyday life--the filth, physical abuse and nagging hunger.
