Bead on Trouble

This is a mystery set deep in the heart of Texas, and narrator C.J. Critt gives us a lively heroine who sounds like former Texas Governor Anne Richards. At the heart of the story is a lifelong female friendship, which began at camp. Now the superannuated campers are back at camp at a craft retreat for beaders. Most of the story involves bubbly girl talk and female bonding, but there is a murder and some exciting moments. This is a total immersion into a world of fanatical hobbiests told by a narrator who knows the scene and portrays it convincingly. Of course, this may not be everyone's scene. D.L.G.
